General Information:
MR11 is a mix of suburban arterial roads and
freeway in Melbourne's southern suburbs, connecting the Mornington
Peninsula to the eastern suburbs of Melbourne. The declared name for
the entire route is 'Mornington Peninsula Route' - which is for both
the freeway and arterial sections. 2
Multiplexes along the route include:
- TD2 for 1 km. from Golf Links Road to Hastings
Road in Frankston
- B110
for 3 km, from the Nepean Hwy / Collins Rd (B110) interchange at
Dromana to the Nepean Hwy (B110 / C787) interchange at Mount Martha
History:
- 1960s: Country Roads Board builds Wells
Road Bypass. The planning for the greater Mornington Peninsula Freeway
began in the 1960s in the then Metropolitan Planning Scheme. 3
- 1970s:
Wells Road Bypass duplicated and upgraded and Frankston Fwy built. Also
duplication of Moorooduc Hwy from Frankston-Flinders Rd to Sages Rd.
- 1975: Mornington Peninsula Fwy constructed.
- 1980s: Remainder of Moorooduc Hwy duplicated.
- 1989: MR11 removed off Springvale Road, replaced
with MR40. 4
- March 1990: Moorooduc Highway section was
declared a state highway. 2
- 1990s: The freeway between Dromana and Moorooduc
South linking to Moorooduc Highway was completed.
