General Information:
The unnumbered section of Memorial Drive was constructed around the same time as the Southern Fwy (NR1 (former F6) and was originally named as Northern Distributor, and given the F8 route number as part of the freeway numbering scheme introduced by the DMR during the 1970s.
The route serves as a connector between Southern Fwy (NR1), Princes Hwy (SR60) and the numbered section of Memorial Dr (SR60). It's full freeway standard with no at-grade junctions.
History:
- 1970s: Northern Distributor constructed between North Wollongong and Gwynneville.
- 1990s: At-grade junction with Southern Fwy (NR1) replaced by grade separated interchange.
